Following years of Sciatic pain, and severe gesticulation's within my right leg (and the suffering I encountered every time I played sport or carried out physical work - I decided to proceed with an operation on my lower back Posterior excision of disc prolapse at L4/L5 (including microdiscectomy +/- decompression) - lumbar region (1 or 2 levels) Carried out by Mr Chitnavis.. Although nothing is guaranteed which was detailed within the reports I received, I was advised that the success rate could be as high as 93%.. Unfortunately 16 months later and I still have sciatic pain and indeed worsening gesticulations in my right leg, which unfortunately prevents me from most activities.. In hindsight I regret having the operation, although when in pain we all look for trying to improve the situation.

Response from Mr Bhupal Chitnavis

Thank you for providing this feedback. I’m disappointed to hear that you continue to experience difficulty. The figure you quote for remediation of sciatica following on from surgery is correct. Unfortunately the success rates for resolution of sciatica are not 100% and it’s difficult to predict presurgically which patients will fare less well. Thanking you once more for your comments and wishing you well.

Mr Chitnavis has recently operated on my spine, fusion L4/5. He has been amazing thought the whole process, his expertise means that for the first time in many years I am pain free. Mr Chitnavis is kind and caring and explained every stage fully. I would not hesitate to recommend him. I am giving him a huge thank you for sticking with me.

Mr Chitnavis was my neurosurgeon for a S1L5 micro discectomy. He was very patient in explaining my diagnosis and listening to my descriptions of the various sciatic symptoms I experienced. It was a very distressing time and I was unable to walk without a limp due to a loss of the motor function of the compressed nerve. He was very helpful and took care to explain the details of my various options. I am now just over 7 months post op and I am back on the tennis court and rock climbing, something I couldn't imagine doing when I was diagnosed!

Mr Chitnavis has performed two spinal procedures, the most recent proving urgent to resolve a serious issue. His manner and approach is exemplary; his willingness to explain and provide advice to enable informed decision making without fault.
